Matthew 13: 31-32 “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.”

Mustard Seed

When the mustard seed (a very small seed) is planted, the tree can become one of the biggest garden herbs and at that point it is no longer called a herb, but a tree. If faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20), what will faith as big a mustard tree be able to do?

In Matthew 13, Jesus said that when the seed becomes a tree, it becomes a shelter to birds of the air. In other words, when we allow our seeds to grow and our faith becomes great, that huge faith we possess will be able to protect, restore, build, and encourage those, passing by/through our lives, who are not yet mature in their faith.

James 2: 17 says that faith without works is dead. When we do a particular work, over and over, we become better. We move from novices to professionals to experts. Therefore, if faith without works is dead, then that simply means that our faith cannot remain at the same level if it is being put to work. It has to grow. So even though faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains, our faith shouldn’t remain a seed. It should germinate and mature into a tree.

Let us put faith to work. Let us grow our faith from a seed and watch it blossom into a tree.
